A Myrtle Creek woman was jailed on 28 charges for alleged theft incidents in the Umpqua National Forest on Saturday.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 5:45 p.m. a 45-year-old was stopped while driving a sedan on Highway 230 in the Tree Lakes Snow Park/Diamond Lake area. She was reportedly assisting 46-year-old Courtney Mitchell in stealing from numerous campground money boxes throughout the UNF. Mitchell was stopped later by a Forest Service Officer and was detained.

Mitchell was also allegedly in possession of money and numerous theft tools. K9 Trapper was deployed around the vehicle at the initial stop. 9.5 grams of methamphetamine was allegedly located inside. More money and theft items were reportedly located inside the vehicle.

Mitchell was charged with 9 counts each of third-degree theft and second-degree criminal trespass, 7 counts of violation of a no contact order, unlawful possession of meth, and possession of burglary and theft tools. Mitchell was detained without bail. The other woman will be cited in the manner.
