Roseburg Police jailed a man for an alleged assault incident Wednesday night.

An RPD report said at 9:15 p.m. the 58-year–old was walking by a victim’s vehicle in the 2900 block of West Harvard Avenue, when the victim’s dog barked at him, scaring the man. The victim and a family member walked over to see if there was a problem, and the suspect allegedly punched the victim several times, knocking him to the ground and knocking him unconscious.

When an officer spoke to the victim, he appeared dazed and confused. Medical personnel responded to check on the victim. He was later transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center for an evaluation.

The fight was witnessed by the family member and another neighbor. Both stated that the suspect punched the victim so fast that he had no time to react and was knocked unconscious. The suspect was charged with fourth-degree assault. He was also detained on an agency hold. Bail was set at $11,250.
