STAYTON — The Roseburg Dr. Stewart’s were in Stayton on Tuesday to continue a busy stretch of the season. Playing their fifth game in three days, the Docs struggled to come up with a clutch hit against the Post 58 Canyon Crushers and fell short in a 4-2 non-league loss at Regis High School.
The Docs (3-4) fell behind 2-0 after three innings of play, but managed to get runs on the board in the fifth and sixth innings. The Crushers (3-4) stayed ahead of the Docs with a pair of runs in the fifth inning on a double by Ethan Kleinschmidt, but Roseburg continued to threaten to cut into the Crushers’ lead.
Dr. Stewart’s had runners in scoring position in each of the final four innings, but left six runners stranded on base.
Daniel Withers was 2-for-3 to lead the Docs at the plate, while Cole Collins and Sebastian Watson both pitched four innings and struck out six hitters apiece.
The Docs will get a chance to play at home the rest of the week after havig just one home game so far this season.
