Music on the Half Shell starts its 30th anniversary season Tuesday night.

Begun as an idea of the late Dick Nichols who was a long-time member of the Roseburg Parks Commission, the vision was to bring music to Roseburg that normally wouldn’t be available in the area. That included diverse genres with artists from around the world. Before the first concerts could begin, significant work was needed to improve a section of Stewart Park along the South Umpqua River. The City of Roseburg agreed to the effort and the first concerts were held in 1992. Minus a pandemic pause in 2020, the series has been going ever since.

Funded by a variety of sponsors including businesses, foundations and individuals, the concerts are free to those attending. Concert goers can add their financial support when buckets are passed mid-way through the evening.

Half-Shell begins this year with The Stone Foxes, a California based rock band featuring two brothers. Food trucks and vendors will have dinner and drinks available. Those attending can also bring their meal, along with wine and beer.

The series will take the July 4th holiday off but otherwise concerts continue Tuesday nights through August 15th.  Complete information about Music on the Half Shell is available at www.halfshell.org
