Music on the Half Shell has announced the lineup for its 2023 summer concerts.
The series began in 1992 and has grown to become one of the premier summer music events in the Pacific Northwest. Concerts are held Tuesday night’s at 7:00 p.m. at the Nichols Band Shell in Roseburg’s Stewart Park. Organizer Clint Newell said there will be seven shows this year but there will not be a concert on Tuesday July 4th.
Concerts include:
*The Stone Foxes on June 27th. The group began in central California in 2005 and played at the Half Shell in 2015.
*CJ Chanier on July 11th: His father is said to have invented the style of music known as Zydeco. The Grammy nominated musician has performed with people like Paul Simon, Joe Sample and Ray Parker Junior.
*ZZ Ward on July 18th: Ward grew up in the Glide area, and moved to Los Angeles over a decade ago. She is known for a fusion of blues, rock and hip hop and has performed at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, along with the Tonight Show and the Late Show. She also opened on tour with Eric Clapton.
*The Heartless Bastards on July 25th: Inspired by the likes of Joan Jett, Tom Petty and Bob Dylan, the group plays a patchwork of rock, psychedelia, folk, alternative and the blues.
*Sona Jobarteh on August 1st: The first female member of one of the five principal kora playing families from West Africa, Jobarteh has studied the stringed instrument since age three. Along with performing, she teaches the instrument in London.
*The Po’ Ramblin’ Boys on August 8th: The high energy, fast paced traditional bluegrass band based out of the Smoky Mountains. They were Grammy nominated in 2019 and play over 250 dates a year.
*The Lao TIzer Band featuring Elliot Yamin, Karen Briggs and Chieli Minucci: “Jazz Group of the Year” nominee, they will close out the season with a high-energy night of crossover jazz, funk, and R&B.
